FAQ
Answers to common questions about what SKU Manager changes, how it works with Shopify, and your plan.
What SKU Manager changes
No. It doesn't change stock quantities or inventory tracking. It writes the SKU on variants your store already has, and adds the same SKU to the variant's barcodes when a rule is set to.
No. It never creates, duplicates or deletes products or variants.
It writes SKUs, and a rule with Write each SKU to the barcode too checked adds each SKU to the variant's barcodes as well. It never changes or removes a barcode already there, like a UPC or an EAN, and SKU Manager doesn't create barcodes like those. It doesn't touch prices, titles, options, images or tags. See Running a rule.
No. SKU Manager never changes a SKU back by itself, and Automatic only fills in SKUs that are missing. If a SKU you edit no longer matches its rule's format, SKU health counts it as out of format and leaves the fix to you.
Draft products are included like active ones. Archived products aren't: no rule covers them, and they don't count towards your store's size. Their SKUs are still checked for duplicates.
How it works
No. Changes made in Shopify reach SKU Manager on their own, usually within a minute. The exception is which collections products are in, which Shopify doesn't send as it happens, so resync after changing collections your rules or formats check. See Resync products.
With a rule set to Automatic, within 20 minutes of being added on Free and Growing, 10 minutes on Established and 5 minutes on High volume. To write them sooner, select them on the Waiting tab of the Activity page and select Write SKUs now. See Automatic.
A run never writes the same SKU to two variants, and rules that share a format never hand out the same number. It doesn't check your whole store before writing, though, so a SKU typed by hand or brought in by an import can still repeat one. SKU health counts duplicates, and the Duplicates page resolves them. See Duplicates.
Yes. Rules that use the same format share its counters. To give a rule its own numbering, give it a copy of the format. See Formats.
Each variant belongs to the first rule in your list that matches it, so a rule above may take it. Archived products aren't in any rule. See How order decides.
Yes. Every run is on the Activity page, and can be undone for 5 to 90 days depending on your plan. An undo puts back only the SKUs that haven't changed since. See Activity, undo and redo.
Plans
For stores under 500 managed variants, yes, with every feature. A bigger store can write its first 500 SKUs free, then needs the plan that fits its size. Development stores are free at any size. See Plans and pricing.
The variants in your store, not counting archived products. It's the size that decides which plan fits your store.
They stay on your products in Shopify. Canceling keeps your rules and formats too, and your plan stays active until its billing period ends. See Canceling your plan.
